The Spirit of Mesopotamia

Who we are?

SOM stands for The Spirit of Mesopotamia. We are a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization registered in California.

The name Mesopotamia refers to the cradle of civilization bringing cultures together to share their experiences and prosper.

In a world that constantly faces challenges, the presence of compassionate and dedicated non-profit organizations becomes invaluable. Among these is SOM, a beacon of hope and transformation in our community. Through their unwavering commitment to motivate, inspire, educate, encourage, and improve the lives of the community, they have become a driving force for positive change.

Our Impact

The journey of SOM has been nothing short of transformative. Through their collective efforts, they have successfully touched the lives of countless individuals, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond what meets the eye. Testimonials from beneficiaries highlight the profound changes experienced – from once underprivileged students now pursuing their dreams to struggling families finding newfound stability and prosperity.

SOM provides educational and cultural events and collects donations for students of low-income families and encourages competition among members to win scholarships for enriching courses at recognized centers.

SOM strives to be the cradle of education for our community in California.

Our Story

In March 2019, three Iraqi-American friends with organizational and public relations expertise had the desire of giving back to their community through a non-profit organization. After some soul searching, they realized that the diversity within our community consists of richness, potential, and strength. Founders envisioned this space to be one where community members across generations could explore the combination of individual and community in a creative and positive way.
